2010-11 COMMITTEES
The following are standing committees of the Association along with the Chairperson and their objectives:

ANNUAL INSTALLATION COMMITTEE
Chairman – Bill Bower, Southeast Mechanical Contractors
Plans the location, dates, times and agenda for the Annual Installation Banquet. Assists staff with details and helps promote attendance.
BEST PRACTICES COMMITTEE
Chairman - Russell Anderson, Moss & Associates
Co-Chairman - Chris Long, Balfour Beatty Construction Co.
Meets on a regular basis with general contractor and subcontractor members to discuss "Best Practices" in their business and communicate the ideas that have merritt to the CASF membership to help them with their day-to-day operations.
BYLAWS/ POLICY COMMITTEE
Chairman – Geoff Bunnell, James A. Cummings, Inc.
Prepares policy recommendations for correlations by the Board of Directors and membership. Reviews the bylaws frequently and recommends any needed revisions.
CRAFTSMANSHIP AWARDS COMMITTEE
Chairman – John Custer
Co-Chairman – Jeff Slade, Miller Construction Company
Plans and executes annual Craftsmanship Awards Program. Helps to promote and get nominations for Craftsmanship Awards. Selects Judges to screen nominations and conduct site visits. Plans annual Craftsmanship Awards banquet and assists in encouraging member participation.
CONFERENCE PLANNING COMMITTEE
Chairman – Bill Bower, Southeast Mechanical Contractors
Researches sites for the Mid-Year Conference and Annual Planning meeting and make suggestions to the Board for final selection. Identifies amenities and activities available and helps plan activities during off-site conferences and meetings.
EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Co-Chairman – Geoff Bunnell, James A. Cummings, Inc.
Co-Chairman – Craig Heiser, Whiting-Turner Contracting Company
The committee critiques past educational programs and reviews industry trends and needs to determine what programs need to be offered by the Association. Develops and implements new programs, such as training programs and seminars, on a timely basis to serve all elements of the CASF membership. In charge of the B.I.M. initiative for training members in both an understanding of and practical uses of B.I.M.
ELECTION/NOMINATING COMMITTEE
Chairman – Geoff Bunnell, James A. Cummings, Inc.
Nominates active members to serve as officers and directors of the Association. Conducts and oversees the actual election process.
FISHING TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE
Co-Chairman – Mike Little, Moss & Associates.
Co-Chairman – Mike Bridis, Balfour Beatty Construction Company
Selects dates, locations, arranges for prize donations, establishes fees and features for the annual fishing tournament. Assists in the promotion of these events and works to encourage membership participation.
GC FORUM COMMITTEE
Chairman - Brad Meltzer, KM/ Plaza Construction Services, Inc.
Co-Chairman - Doug Wallace, Stiles Construction Company
Meets on a regular basis to identify and discuss issues affecting commercial construction in South Florida. Plans actions to take to address the concerns of general contractor members doing business in South Florida.
GOLF TOURNAMENT COMMITTEE
Chairman – Harley Miller, Miller Construction Company
Co-Chairman – Russell Anderson, Moss & Associates
Selects dates, locations, arranges for prize donations, works with the selected charities, establishes ffees and features for the golf tournaments. Assists in the promotion of these events and helps encourage membership participation.
GOVERNMENT AFFAIRS COMMITTEE
Chairman – Geoff Bunnell, James A. Cummings, Inc.
Co-Chairman - Brian Wolf, Smith, Currie and Hancock, LLP
Monitors local, city, county (Broward, Dade and Palm Beach) and state government on industry related issues. Studies legislation and building code provisions. Confers with political leaders and building officials on matters affecting the industry. Recommends member participation to protect and improve the building industry in South Florida. Encourages member involvement in the political process.
MEMBERSHIP COMMITTEE

Co-Chairman (Miami-Dade) – Tom Murphy, Coastal Construction Group
Co-Chairman (Palm Beach) - Paul Licata, Seacrest Services, Inc.
Reviews membership criteria, structure, and dues levels. Develops both new member and retention goals. Plans activities to reach objectives and increase membership. Helps to develop a comprehensive prospect list an set up personal contacts by members.
MEMBERSHIP BENEFITS COMMITTEE
Chairman – Sid Blaauw, Steel Fabricators, LLC
Works with staff to identify volume buying, discounts and exclusive travel opportunities for members. Objective is to increase value of membership in the association.
MINORITY OUTREACH COMMITTEE
Chairman - Tom Murphy, Coastal Construction Group
Co-Chairman - Bob Baer, Central Florida Equipment
Reaches out to the Department heads of the community small business departments and the certifide small businesses in each county to identify policies and communicate to the membership how to better utilize their services in public, as well as, private construction projects. They also encourage CASF members to participate in Mentor/Protege programs to help small businesses grow.
NETWORKING/ PROGRAM COMMITTEE
Chairman – John Bennett, Baker Concrete Construction
Co-Chairman - Bob Baer, Central Florida Equipment
Plans and implements monthly networking breakfasts with the overall objective of providing a means for members to get to know members. Identifies and contacts general contractor member sponsors for each event. Identifies and contacts subcontractor and supplier members to sponsor monthly "Membership Mixers". Develops, plans and assists in the executing social events throughout the year to provide interaction between members, while providing non-dues income for the Association.
POLITICAL ACTION COMMITTEE
Chairman – Rick Derrer, James A. Cummings, Inc.
Encourages membership participation and financial contributions which enable the committee to support or challenge candidates and issues in state, county and local government that affect the construction business.
SAFETY COMMITTEE
Chairman – Rick Schuerger, John Moriarty & Associates of Fla.
Works to identify areas of safety concerns on South Florida jobsites. Coordinates periodic meetings of member Safety Directors to discuss challenges of OSHA's C.A.R.E. inititive. Communicate ways to improve job safety to the membership.
SCHOLARSHIP COMMITTEE
Chairman – Robert Mitchell, Whiting-Turner Contracting Co.
Oversees the selection process for giving annual scholarships to students seeking degrees in construction. Establishes criteria and procedures for applicants. Makes final decision on who receives a scholarship.
SCHOLARSHIP FUND RAISING COMMITTEE
Chairman – Bob Benson, Crowe, Chizek & Co.
Seeks opportunities to involve associate members as an active part of the association. Develops, plans and conducts an annual event to help raise monies for the scholarship fund which provides scholarships for college Junior and Seniors working for a post-secondary degree in construction .
YOUTH EDUCATION COMMITTEE
Chairman – Doug Wallace, Stiles Construction Company
Works with the school boards of each county to stress the need for career education in the field of Construction. Promoting construction as a viable career alternative to middle school students through participation in career days, providing speakers to classes and planning field trips to construction companies and project sites. Develops and promotes a Website for career information and employer leads on future skilled workers.
